#6 Indians back at home tonight against South Georgia Tech

After a pair of wins over Georgia teams in their last games, the #6 Indians will look to add another when they square off with the Jets from South Georgia Tech tonight in The Milt. The two teams will tip at 7 PM and fans can get in free by bringing in a canned good. Donations will go to help local charities.

Chipola moved up two spots to #6 in the NJCAA Rankings and #2 in the FCSAA Coaches' Poll after taking down Georgia Highlands and Central Georgia Tech in Rome, Georgia over the weekend.

The Indians (5-0) are averaging 81.2 points per game while holding their opponents' average to 70. The Jets (2-2) come in to Tuesday's contest averaging 74.3 ppg while giving up an average of 68.3 ppg.

Key Stat to watch for:

  • South Georgia Tech is 36th in the NJCAA in opponents' 3PT percentage. The Jets have held opponents to 26.0 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Chipola comes into the game shooting 46.3 percent from three-point range. That's good enough for 25th in the NJCAA.

Top scorers for each team:

  • The Indians are led by sophomore guard, Derrick Butler, who averages 17.4 points per game. Butler had his biggest game of the year thus far on November 4 when he poured in 27 points against Southwest Mississippi Community College.
  • Sophomore Aaron Pitts averages 14.0 ppg for Coach Chris Ballauer and the Jets. Pitts scored 19 in a 70-65 loss to Eastern Florida State on November 11. 

Game Notes:

  • Tonight is the first of a five-game homestand for the Indians. Chipola is 32-2 at The Milt under Coach Donnie Tyndall.
  • Chipola defeated South Georgia Tech last season, 99-81, in the Chipola Classic.
  • After their season opening 79-74 win over Gulf Coast State College, the Jets appeared at 25th in the NJCAA Rankings on November 7. Losses in their last two games have dropped them from the rankings. 
  • This is the first road game of the season for the Jets.
  • The Indians will travel to Americus, Georgia later in November to play the Jets on their home floor.
  • Chipola assistant coach Jaren Harris, a Georgia native, was an assistant at South Georgia Tech for the last two seasons.
  • Chipola has five players from the state of Georgia: Cliff Davis (Thomasville); Jatarion Warren (Tifton); JC Curry (Hartwell); Jerald Colonel (Savannah); and Tyrese Powers (Fitzgerald).
