Student-Athlete Advisory Council

The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) at Chipola College is comprised of student-athletes who, working together, serve as the liaison between the student-athletes’ body and the Director of Athletics with the goal of enhancing the athletic experience at Chipola. 

The mission of Chipola College Student-Athlete Advisory Council is to enable student-athletes to participate in developing leadership skills both inside and outside the field of competitions, to protect student-athlete well-being, and to provide a vehicle through which athletic department administrators discuss with student-athletes issues regarding the management, operation, and rules that govern the athletic department and programs.    

            The purpose of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council is to:

    • Advocate on behalf of all Chipola College student-athletes within the college structure
    • Plan and promote volunteer opportunities for all student-athletes
    • Promote a positive student-athlete image on campus and in the community
    • Serve as an integral role in the structure of the Chipola Athletic Department and its formulation of policies regarding student-athlete well-being

Participate in Chipola’s Student Government Association (SGA) and attend regularly scheduled SGA meetings and activities

Membership Criteria 

  1. The official SAAC representatives for each sport, including cheerleading, are determined by their respective head coach.
  2. Two student-athletes from each sport, including cheerleading, will consist of one first-year participant and one second-year participant. 
  3. Must be academically eligible for participation in intercollegiate athletics (student-athlete who become academically ineligibility will not be allowed to continue participating with SAAC).
  4. Must be submitted on eligibility and maintain athletic status with his/her team (student-athletes who are dismissed are not allowed to continue participating with SAAC).  

All student-athletes are allowed to attend SAAC meetings without regard to age, ethnicity, gender, disability, color, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veterans’ status.

 

Meetings 

  1. Meetings shall be held monthly during the academic year.  The president with the approval of the Athletic Director may call other meetings. 
  2. Attendance at all SAAC meetings is required.  Absences are excused only in the following cases: documented emergencies, athletic competition occurring during scheduled meetings, or preapproved by the Athletic Director. 
  3. If a member is to miss a meeting, he/she must inform the Athletic Director through email or in person of the absence prior to the meeting.
  4. Two unexcused absences are caused for dismissal from the SAAC. 

Officers

  1. All officers must be currently enrolled students at Chipola College and registered for at least six credit hours (unless approved by the Athletic Director).  Officers should be in good standing with Chipola College.  Officers may be removed by the Athletic Director for conduct detrimental to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council or Chipola College Athletics.
  2. Elections for the officers shall be held at the first meeting of the new school year.
  3. The president and vice president should have at least one year’s service in SAAC.  
    • President – To preside over meetings in conjunction with the Athletic Director, to serve as the official representative of the organization, to communicate with the advisor, to appoint committee chairs, and any other duties necessary for conducting the business of the organization.
    • Vice President – To assist the president in carrying out his/her duties, and in the absence of the president to carry out those duties.
    • Secretary – To take and attain the minutes of the organization’s meetings, to carry out the correspondence of the organization, to distribute necessary information to the organization and student body.
