Two-time defending State Champions tip-off 2022-23 on November 1

Two-time defending State Champions tip-off 2022-23 on November 1

The Chipola men's basketball open the 2022-2023 season on November 1 at 7:00 PM with Coastal Alabama - North.

"We open up November 1 with our #PacktheMilt night," said Indians' head coach Donnie Tyndall. "We are trying to sell this game out as it is our season opener and we want to pack the gym."

In two seasons under Coach Tyndall, the Indians are 27-2 at The Milt and will look to improve on that home record this season with 15 games inside the friendly confines of the Milton H. Johnson Center.

"In addition to the Opening Night game against Coastal Alabama, we have seven home games in the month of November, including three weekends of tournament play against quality competition."

Chipola will host three tournaments in the month of November starting with the Chipola Classic. The Indians will take on Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday before closing out Polk State College on the following day. Chipola and Polk State played in the first round of last season's FCSAA State Tournament with the Indians coming out on top, 74-60.

On November 18-19, Chipola will host the Milton Johnson Classic and face off against two teams from Georgia. On Friday night, the Indians will face Andrew College from Cuthbert then face Georgia Highlands College from Rome on Saturday afternoon.

In the Thanksgiving Classic on November 25-26, Chipola will host Southern Union State Community College on Friday and close out the tournament with LSU-Eunice on Saturday.

The Indians will spend most of the month of December on the road with a tournament in Tallahassee on December 3-4 and the Florida JUCO Shootout at Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne on December 10-11.

Before taking a break for Christmas, the Indians will host Enterprise State Community College on Saturday, December 17. Chipola will return to action in the Gulf Coast Classic on the final two days of 2022.

"With only four returning players this season, we have put together a challenging schedule that should be very exciting for our fans," Tyndall said about the non-conference slate. "In the Florida JUCO Shootout, we will play Saint Pete and nationally ranked Florida SouthWestern."

"I believe this nonconference schedule will get us prepared for Panhandle Conference play, which in my opinion, will be the most balanced it's been in quite some time."

The Indians start Panhandle Conference play with the defending national champion, Northwest Florida, a team Chipola defeated three times last season, including a 78-72 FCSAA semifinal win en route to its 17th State Championship.

This season, Chipola will host both the Raiders and Gulf Coast two out of the three meetings while traveling to Pensacola and Tallahassee for two of the three games with both the Pirates and Eagles.

After winning the State Championship and advancing to the NJCAA Final Four in the last two season, Coach Tyndall and the Indians are looking to reach their ultimate goal of winning Chipola's first men's basketball NJCAA Championship.

"I believe our team is looking forward to the challenge and hope that our fans will come out and support us in a big way this season."
