Conference Series Preview: Indians take on Pensacola State Pirates

The #7 nationally ranked Chipola Indians will face-off with the Pensacola State College Pirates in their second Panhandle conference series of the season. On Tuesday and Thursday, Chipola College will travel to Pensacola for a nine inning game at 5 PM. On Saturday, the Indians will host the Pirates in a double header at Jeff Johnson Field, starting at 1 PM.

The Indians currently sit at 22-7 and 3-1 in Panhandle Conference play. Chipola opened conference play last week winning three of four games with Tallahassee Community College. In the four-game set, the pitching staff struck out 49 batters.

Through 29 games, Cameron Gray leads the Indians with 36 hits and 23 RBIs, while batting .346. Matthew Garcia has leads the team in doubles with five. 

Mark Black was hot at the plate against the Eagles going 6-for-10 with six RBIs. He is hitting .375 on the year and second on the team with 18 RBIs. 

The Indians pitching is second in the country in strikeouts (332). Andrew Baker is second in the NJCAA with 53 and Luis Guerrero is eighth with 46. 

Andrew Baker leads the staff with a 5-0 record, ranked second in the NJCAA.  

Bo Bonds has a team-high four saves, ranked third in the NJCAA. 

Pensacola State College enters the week 11-11 and 1-0 in the Panhandle conference.
