#7 Chipola wins first Panhandle Conference game of the year

On Tuesday night, #7 Chipola College (20-6, 1-0 PC) played their first Panhandle conference game of the year, hosting Tallahassee Community College (9-13, 0-1 PC).

In the first inning, Myles Austin led off with a walk and moved to second on a stolen base. Austin would come around to score and give the Indians the early 1-0 lead on the first of three singles on the day by Mark Black.

In the fourth inning, the Indians loaded the bases with three straight walks. After Joszef Rohrbacher scored on a balk by the Tallahassee pitcher, Mark Black drove in his second run of the day scoring Alfonso Villalobos and extending the lead to 3-0.

In the sixth inning, the Eagles took advantage of a Chipola error to cut the lead to 3-1.

Cedric De Grandpre came on in relief to shut down any hopes the Eagles had of coming from behind. After striking out the side in the seventh, De Grandpre snuffed out an eight inning threat when the Eagles were able to bring the go-ahead run to the plate with runners on first and second and two outs. De Grandpre struck out the next batter he faced to retire the side. In the ninth, De Grandpre threw a perfect inning to preserve the win and record his third save of the year. The freshman, right-hander finished the day allowing only one hit and striking out six.

Andrew Baker recorded the win to move his record to 5-0, tossing 6 innings, allowing one run, four hits, and striking out eight.

Mark Black was 3-for-4 on the day with 2 RBIs.

#7 Chipola will continue the Panhandle Conference series this Thursday, hosting Tallahassee Community College at 5 PM.
