Indians Fall to Walters State in Game One

Chipola lost the lead late in an 8-6 defeat to Walters State on Saturday in the opening round of the NJCAA Juco World Series.

Walters State trailed 6-5 in the top of the seventh inning when Gilliand singled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Despite the loss, CHIPOLA Indians did collect 11 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Walters State had 13 hits on the way to victory.

Walters State opened up scoring in the first inning, when Wolfe grounded out, scoring one run.

CHIPOLA Indians scored three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Jonathan Nieves and an error on a ball put in play by Austin Bates.

Gillian earned the win for Walters State. He allowed five hits and one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one.

Trevor Holloway took the loss for CHIPOLA Indians. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out three.

Andrew Grogan started the game for CHIPOLA Indians. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out two and walking zero Knack started the game for Walters State. He allowed six hits and five runs over four innings, striking out four

CHIPOLA Indians socked one home run on the day. Nieves had a four bagger in the fifth inning.

CHIPOLA Indians saw the ball well today, racking up 11 hits in the game. NievesMorgan McCullough, and Edmond Americaan each managed multiple hits for CHIPOLA Indians.McCullough and Nieves each collected three hits to lead CHIPOLA Indians.

Walters State racked up 13 hits. HarrisHenryCareyGentry, and Gilliand all collected multiple hits for Walters State.

The Indians fall into the losers bracket and will face Barton tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. MST/8:30 p.m. CST.
