LAST TIME OUT
The #13 Lady Indians traveled to Enterprise State on Monday, December 9, and defeated the Lady Weevils, 71-25, to improve their record to 11-0.
Daniya McDonald led all scorers with 16 points and Aniyah Ruddock added 12.
The game marked the return of sophomore forward Jailynn Brill who had missed the last five games due to injury. Brill tallied 9 points and hauled in 7 rebounds.
Making her first appearance in a Chipola uniform, last year's NJCAA Division II National Player of the Year, McKenna Minter, scored four points. Minter had also been recovering from an injury that kept her sidelined for the first ten games of the season.
The #15 Indians made quick work of South Georgia Tech (1-9) at the Milton H. Johnson Health Center on Wednesday night. Chipola shot 42.3% from beyond the arc, their best three-point output of the season, to defeat the Jets, 78-44. The 34-point difference was Chipola's largest margin of victory this season and the most since defeating Southern Union, 104-63, on December 30, 2023.
Antonio Baker contributed five of the Indians' eleven three-point shots on his way to a game-high 18 points. Joining him in double figures were Markel Freeman with 16 and Trent Lincoln with 12.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT
The Lawson State women's basketball team comes into Saturday's contest on a three-game win streak after defeating Meridian Community College on Monday at home, 56-54. The Lady Cougars are 12-2 on the season with both losses coming to schools from Mississippi. Monday's win was redemption for a 80-72 road loss to Meridian on November 25.
After defeating East Mississippi Community College on November 14 on the road, Lawson dropped an overtime game, 72-67, two days later at home to the Lady Lions. Chipola defeated East Mississippi in the Northeast Mississippi Thanksgiving Classic, 70-53, on November 22.
The Lady Cougars average 69.9 points per game and allow their opponents' just 56.4 points per outing.
Freshman guard Breona Walker leads Lawson State with an average of 13.0 points and sophomore guard, Destinee Nelson, gets 12.2 per game.
Lawson State's men's team is currently 8-6 after winning their last two games, including a 64-52 victory over Meridian on Monday night. The Cougars are scoring 68.0 points per game while allowing their opponents to outscore them at 69.1 points per game.
Chipola and the Cougars have played two common opponents this season. Lawson State defeated Chipola's last opponent, South Georgia Tech, 68-60, on November 7. The Cougars fell twice, however, to East Central Community College, a team that Chipola defeated in overtime, 66-59, in Panama City on November 8.
One-tenth of a point separates Lawson State's top two scorers this season. Sophomore Michael Jones is shooting 63.3% from the floor and carries a 10.5 average into Saturday's game. Another sophomore, Jaylen Carrington, is averaging 10.4 points per game.
