#7 Lady Indians host Veterans Day Classic this weekend

The Lady Indians will host the Veterans Day Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Milton H. Johnson Center.

The #7 Lady Indians are coming off a pair of convincing wins last weekend in the Chipola Classic. Coach Greg Franklin's squad moved up four spots in the NJCAA Rankings and sophomore guard, Ashley Baez, was named NJCAA Player of the Week.

The NJCAA runner-up from a season ago, Georgia Highlands College from Rome, Georgia, will take on #9 in the weekend's first game on Friday at 4 PM.

Coach Brandan Harrell's Lady Chargers are 2-1 on the young season with their only loss coming to #17 Florida SouthWestern a week ago in the Senators Tip Off Classic at Walters State Community College.

Georgia Highlands is led by Jasmine Stevens, a sophomore from Morrow, Georgia. Stevens averages 12.3 points per game and scored 14 in the Lady Chargers 89-64 win over Calhoun Community College on Monday night.

The #9 Lady Commodores, led by second-year head coach Rory Kuhn, started the season 4-0 which included a 76-61 home win over preseason #5 South Georgia Tech in their season opener.

Gulf Coast is led by a pair of sophomore guards, Ciante Downs and Imani Smith, who each average 14.7 PPG. Downs, from Ontario, Canada, had a pair of 16-point games against DME Academy and Santa Fe College in the team's last two games. Smith, a native of Hiram, Georgia, scored 22 points in the season opener against South Georgia Tech.

Chipola will face Central Georgia Tech in Friday's second game with tip-off scheduled for 6 PM.

The Lady Titans, coached by Antonio Harris in his eight season, have started 2022-23 with a 1-2 record that includes losses to Tallahassee Community College and South Georgia Tech.  Their lone win came against Southern Union, 56-54, on Monday.

Central Georgia Tech is led by Makaila Glaster-Brown, a sophomore transfer guard from Dallas, Texas. Glaster-Brown averages 12.5 PPG and scored 17 points in the Lady Titans' opener against Tallahassee.

Daily admission for the two-day event is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door. Veterans of the US Armed Forces get in free this weekend. Chipola Appreciation Club members should enter through the back of the Milton H. Johnson Center. Games involving Chipola Chipola's games will be broadcast on the College's YouTube channel. Games not involving Chipola will not be broadcast.
