Baez adds NJCAA Player of the Week to her accolades

On Wednesday morning, the National Junior College Athletic Association announced Chipola guard Ashley Baez as the NJCAA D1 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for November 2-8.

The announcement comes a day after Baez was named the FCSAA/Region VIII Player of the Week.

Baez, a native of the Dominican Republic, led the Lady Indians in two dominating wins that propelled Chipola up four slots to #7 in the NJCAA Rankings this week.

The sophomore scored a career-high 40 points against DME Academy in the Lady Indians' season opener on Friday night at The Milt. She then followed that perfomance up with a 37 point game against Region VIII foe, Hillsborough Community College.

For the week, Baez averaged 38.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 8.0 steals in two games. She shot 51.7 percent (30-for-58) from the field and 40.0 percent (14-for-35) from three.

Baez and the #7 Lady Indians will host the Veterans Day Classic this weekend at the Milton H. Johnson Center. NJCAA runner-up from a season ago, Georgia Highlands College, along with #9 Gulf Coast State College and Central Georgia Tech round out the tournament.
