#2 Lady Indians overwhelm #3 Jones College in battle of unbeatens

The Lady Indians got a pair 20-point games from sophomores Jordan McLaughlin and Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins and Shimei Muhammad chipped in 18 as #2 Chipola moved to 14-0 on the season with a 84-55 victory over #3 Jones College.

With the two teams tied 6-6 after three minutes of play, Muhammad picked off a pass and went the length of the court for a lay-up. The Lady Indians outscored the Bobcats 18-6 over the remainder of the quarter and led the rest of the game.

Chipola extended the lead in the second quarter. Coach Greg Franklin and the Lady Indians went into the locker room at the break leading 43-22.

The Lady Indians kept the pressure on in the second half as they began the third quarter on a 9-0 run. The Bobcats did not get their first points in the second half until 5:28 remaining in the third. 

Leading 61-37 as the fourth quarter started, the Lady Indians continued to dominate the number three team in the country. Chipola would stretch the lead and after being up by thirty, closed out the game with the 84-55 win.

Ashley Baez joined McLaughlin, Wright-Gaskins, and Muhammad in double figures, picking up 12. Wright-Gaskins also hauled in eleven rebounds to pick up her third consecutive double-double and seventh of the season. Shcira Fowles continued her dominance on the boards by reigning in ten rebounds on the night.

Chipola will have some time off before their next game. The Lady Indians will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana on December 30-31 to play in the Lake Charles New Year's Classic. Chipola will take on LSU-Eunice on the first day of the tournament before closing out 2021 with South Plains College.

The next home gane for the Lady Indians will be the beginning of Panhandle Conference play on January 4 against Tallahassee Community College.
