Lady Indians win a pair on the road

The Chipola women's basketball team traveled to Eastern Florida State College this weekend and came back with two wins in the FCSAA Shootout.

Chipola 95, Miami-Dade 40

The Lady Indians kept up their torrid pace by defeating the Sharks, 95-40, in their first road game of the. For the third consecutive game, Chipola has scored at least 90 points and defeated their opponents by 46 points or more.

Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins led the Lady Indians with 16 points. Ashley Baez (16), Jordan McLaughlin (13), and Shimei Muhammad (12) were also in double digits for Chipola.

A 33-point third quarter helped the Lady Indians pull away and give them their first win over a Region VIII opponent this season.

Chipola 70, Florida State College - Jacksonville 21

For the first team in the young season, the Lady Indians failed to score at least 90 points but a suffocating defense delivered a 70-21 win over the FSCJ Blue Wave in the second game of the FCSAA Shootout.

Chipola's leading scorer, Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins, turned in 22 points, one more than the entire Blue Wave squad. Ashley Baez contributed nine points while Kaitlyn Bryant and Justina Graham each had eight.

With the wins this weekend, the Lady Indians (#3 NJCAA, #2 FSCAA) moved to 4-0 on the season. Chipola is averaging just under 94 points a game and has an average margin of victory of 66.5 points.

The Lady Indians return to The Milt on Wednesday nght for a 5:00 game against Chattahoochee Valley Community College. The Lady Pirates are 1-0 following a 99-73 win over Andrew College on Saturday.
