Lady Indians move to 2-0 with 90-44 win over East Georgia State

One night after setting a career high, Jordan McLaughlin upped that point total to 31 in a 90-44 win over East Georgia State College (0-2). Eleven players scored for the Lady Indians as they moved to 2-0 on the young season.

Like the previous night, Chipola raced out to an early lead, using strong defense and McLaughlin's nine first quarter points. After the first quarter of play, the Lady Indians smothered the Lady Bobcats, 21-4.

Early in the second quarter, the East Georgia managed to close the gap to 14 but they would get no closer. McLaughlin added ten more to her tally in the second quarter and Coach Greg Franklin's squad went into the locker room leading 45-17.

Any hopes that East Georgia had of a comeback were quickly dashed as the second half began. The Lady Indians started the half on a 22-2 run and pushed their lead to 71-23 going into the final quarter.

Newcomer Kaitlyn Bryant from Opelika, Alabama, was the hot shooter in the fourth for Chipola. Bryant scored 11 of her 13 total points in the final ten minutes of play, including two three-pointers. The only person on the court that could stop McLaughlin on the night was her head coach. With the lead well in hand, Coach Greg Franklin sat her for most of the fourth quarter.

Shcira Fowles joined McLaughlin and Bryant in double figures, scoring 13, including two three-pointers.

The Lady Indians (#3 NJCAA/#2 FCSAA) will travel to Melbourne for the FCSAA shootout. Chipola will face Miami-Dade, the #10 team in FCSAA, on Friday at 2 PM and close out the road trip on Saturday with a noon game against Florida State College at Jacksonville.
