Preview: Lady Indians to face Eastern Arizona at NJCAA Tournament

The number three seed Lady Indians will face the nineteenth seeded Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters in the second round of the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Championship in Lubbock, Texas.

The Lady Indians are making their first appearance in the national tournament since losing in the quarterfinals in 2017. Chipola won the National Championship in 2015 and lost in the semifinals in 2016.

The Lady Indians, who earned a bye in the first round, haven't played since the FCSAA Championship Game on April 10.

  • The Gila Monsters are 17-2 this season and have won their last six games.
  • Eastern Arizona averages 75.2 points per game and shoots 41.6 perceont from the floor, including 31.8 percentage from three-point range.
  • Freshman Catarina Ferriera leads the Gila Monsters averaging 13 points per game

Tournament Notes

  • The Panhandle Conference has won the National Championship every year since 2015 and has three teams in this year's tournament (Chipola, Northwest Florida, and Gulf Coast). Gulf Coast was eliminated on Monday by Miles Community College. The #5 seed Northwest Florida will play right before the Indians at 3 PM on Wednesday.
  • The number one seed in the tournament, Jones Community College, was upset in the second round by 16th seeded Western Nebraska Community College, 63-60
