Lady Indians sweep season series with Gulf Coast

Isadora Sousa turned in a career-high 30 points on Wednesday in the #3 Lady Indians' fourth victory over Gulf Coast this season.

The #15 Lady Commodores gave their Panhandle Conference rival all they wanted on Wednesday night at The Milt. The two teams were tied eight different times in the game and there were nine lead changes. The Lady Indians prevailed, 90-79, using a strong fourth quarter and getting the big night from Sousa.

At the end of the first half, Chipola held a one point lead, 44-43, thanks to shooting 64.3 percent from the floor. The Lady Commodores stayed with the Lady Indians by shooting 9-of-16 from three-point range.

Throughout the night, Chipola had a tough time containing Gulf Coast sophomore, Nia Daniel. Daniel finished the night shooting 14-of-22, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc and also 5-of-7 from the free throw line, for a total of 39 points.

The two teams would enter the final quarter of play tied 66-66. The Lady Indians' were strong on the boards in the fourth quarter, out rebounding the Lady Commodores, 13-4. Brenda McKinney's ten rebounds on the night led the way for the Lady Indians as they dominated Gulf Coast on the boards, 41-22.

The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Commodores in the final period, 24-13, to come away with the 11-point win.

Joining Sousa in double figures were De'Myla Brown with 24 and Jordan McLaughlin with 14.

With the win, Chipola clinches a berth in the FCSAA/Region 8 Tournament to be held in Niceville, April 7-10. The Lady Indians move to 14-2 overall and 11-2 in the Panhandle Conference.

The Lady Indians will travel to Pensacola on Saturday to take on the Lady Pirates at 5:30 PM.
