Women's basketball comes up short against Raiders, 65-60

The #1 Lady Indians (12-2, 9-2 PC) carried an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter but could not hold on as #3 Raiders (15-1, 11-1 PC) took the win and sole possession of first place in the Panhandle Conference.

The two teams had been evenly matched throughout the 2021 season with each team winning on the other's home floor. After the first half of play, Chipola and Northwest Florida were still all square as the teams went to the locker room tied 28-28.

Chipola would start the third quarter on fire jumping out to a ten-point lead three minutes into the second half. Heading to the fourth, Lady Indians led the Raiders, 51-43.

The hot shooting of the Chipola women went cold in the fourth as they managed only 4-of-19 shooting in the quarter. Meanwhile, the Raiders came alive, shooting 7-of-12 in the fourth, including 4-of 5 from three-point range. Raider freshman, Last-Tear Poa, had nine of her game-high 30 points in the quarter.

The Lady Indians struggled at the line making only 14-of-25 free throws for 58 percent. Meanwhile the Raiders took advantage of their opportunities shooting 93 percent from the line and missing only one free throw on the day.

The Lady had three players in double figures: De'Myla Brown (18); Isadora Sousa (16); and Ifunanya Nwachukwu (10).

Chipola will have a quick turnaround, hosting Pensacola State on Monday at 5:30 PM, in a make-up game from earlier in the season. The February 6 game was postponed due to COVID-19 precautionary contact tracing measures within the Pensacola program.
