#1 Lady Indians Defeat Gulf Coast on the road, 77-66

The veteran trio of Jordan McLaughlin, Isadora Sousa, and De'Myla Brown accounted for 60 points as the NJCAA #1 ranked Lady Indians knocked off conference foe, Gulf Coast State College on Wednesday night, 77-66.

With two minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Lady Indians broke away from the Lady Commodores with a 7-0 run to take early control of the Panhandle Conference matchup. The run included a 15-2 stretch that extended into the second quarter as Chipola went into halftime leading 36-24. 

Both teams put up big numbers in the third quarter with Chipola outscoring Gulf Coast, 23-20, and giving the Lady Indians a 15-point lead heading into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth, the Lady Commodores would cut the lead down to five but could not get any closer. Chipola pulled away at the end making baskets when they needing to and hitting their free throws late.

On the night the Lady Indians shot 45.8 percent from the floor while holding Gulf Coast to just 28.4 percent. Chipola was 40 percent from beyond the arc and shot 75 percent from the free throw line.

De'Myla Brown once again led all scorers on the night with 23 points. Brown was also solid at the free throw line going 4-for-4, all in the second half.

Isadora Sousa, the reigning FCSAA/Region 8 Player of the Week, continued a streak of increasing scoring output. With her season-high 19 points, her point total has climbed each of the last six games. 

Jordan McLaughlin joined Sousa with a season high, pouring in 18 points for the Lady Indians. McLaughlin also contributed five assists and three steals.

The Lady Indians (10-1; 7-1 PC) will be back at home to take on Pensacola (1-9, 1-7 PC) on Saturday evening. Tip-off from the Milton H. Johnson Center is set for 5:30 PM.
