Lady Indians fall for the first time at the NJCAA D1 Softball World Series to #1 FSW
Lady Indians face Wallace State - Hanceville Thursday night at 8 PM CDT/6 PM MST in an elimination game.
YUMA, Ariz. – The #12 Chipola Lady Indians (35-20) fell for the first time at the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series on Thursday afternoon. The #1 seed, Florida SouthWestern defeated the Lady Indians, 9-3, to advance to the finals of the winner's bracket.
Chipola will have to fight their way out of the loser's bracket beginning with a game against #11 Wallace-Hanceville Thursday evening at 8 PM CDT/6 PM MST.

FSW's Lizzy Kwakernaak (17-2) pitched a one-hitter despite giving up three runs over seven innings.
Chipola scored first on Rani Meaux's sac fly that scored Anyela Gomez-Ruiz in the second inning to score seven in the bottom of the inning.
As she had done in the FCSAA Championship Game, Gomez-Ruiz hit a home run late in the game to pull Chipola closer. Her two-run shot to right-centerfield was her team-leading 12th home run of the season.

After losing their first game of the tournament to #6 Odessa, 6-2, Wallace-Hanceville has won three consecutive games including a 10-2 win earlier on Thursday against McCook Community College. The Lions won two games on Wednesday, 6-2 over #14 Southern Union and 10-1 over #20 Navarro.
Chipola has not beaten Wallace since a 3-0 win in Columbus, Georgia on March 11, 2017. Since that time, the Lions have defeated the Lady Indians three times including a 5-0 win that last time Chipola was in Yuma, 2021.
Game Notes
- Thursday afternoon's offensive output was the second time this season, Chipola has been held to a single hit in a game this season. The last time Chipola faced Northwest Florida, they were held to one hit in an 8-0 loss.
- Six teams are left in the World Series. With a win tonight, Chipola will be one of four teams remaining in NJCAA D1 Softball.
