Lady Indians to face three top 10 teams in Fort Myers this weekend
Chipola will take on #1 Indian River, #7 Florida SouthWestern, #8 College of Southern Idaho, & Miami Dade
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Chipola Lady Indians (8-2) will get a test this weekend when they travel to Fort Myers for the Paradise Cove Tournament hosted by Florida SouthWestern State College. The Lady Indians will take on three teams that were ranked in the NJCAA's Division I Softball Rankings.
After a 4-0 weekend at the Visit Dothan Invitational, Chipola will take a five-game win streak into their first game at Lee Health Park against the defending National Champion and preseason #1, Indian River State College. The Pioneers will be playing their first game of the season when the teams meet at 11:45 AM CT on Friday.
Chipola will turn around and take on the host team, #7 Florida SouthWestern, at 2 PM CT. The Lady Bucs were also 4-0 at the Visit Dothan Invitational. FSW is 12-0 on the season and already has wins against #5 Walters State and #8 College of Southern Idaho.
Indian River (2024), Florida SouthWestern (2021-2023), & Chipola (2019) have won the last five NJCAA Softball Championships. The championship was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.
It doesn't get much easier on Saturday for the Lady Indians. Another team that went 4-0 in Dothan last weekend, Miami Dade will be Chipola's first opponent on the final day of the Paradise Cove Tournament. Chipola and the Sharks (6-0) will start day two at 9 AM CT.
Chipola will wrap up the weekend with their third top ten opponent in two days. The #8 Golden Eagles have started slow at 5-6 this season having played every game away from their home in Twin Falls, Idaho. CSI went 2-2 in Nevada on opening weekend then traveled to Yuma, Arizona, home of the 2025 NJCAA Softball Championship, and finished 2-3. The Golden Eagles split a pair of games on Thursday in Fort Myers, winning 7-4 over Spoon River College before falling to #7 FSW, 8-1.
