#10 Lady Indians sweep #13 Gulf Coast

The #10 Lady Indians took two Panhandle Conference wins over the #13 Gulf Coast Lady Commodores on Saturday to move to 32-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

GAME ONE: Chipola (6) Gulf Coast (0)

Less than a week from suffering her first loss of the season to this same Gulf Coast team, Zayla McBurrows carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning of game one en route to her 13th win of the season. McBurrows was dominant in the circle allowing only two hits, striking out six,  and shutting out the Lady Commodores.

Consecutive singles with one out in the second from Kinzie Nelson, Sierra Jevyak, and Olivia Sasser led to the first run of the game as Sasser picked up her 28th RBI of the season. After Hannah Atwood grounded out to move Sasser and Jevyak to second and third, Kamari Strozier singled to drive in two more runs.

In the third, following a single by Janelle Martinez, Charity Bibbs hit the left field foul pole to put the Lady Indians up 5-0. Bibbs' home run was her first of two she would have on the day.

Back to back doubles from Kamari Strozier and Marley Sims in the bottom of the fourth would wrap up the scoring and give the Lady Indians the 6-0 win.

GAME TWO: Chipola (4) Gulf Coast (2)

A pair of home runs and a pair of doubles in the third and fourth innings provided all the runs the Lady Indians needed to finish the sweep over the Lady Commodores in the second game.

Kinzie Nelson started the scoring with a leadoff home run in the third, her fifth home run of the season. Later in the inning, with one out, Olivia Sasser doubled and then scored on a double by Hannah Atwood to give Chipola a 2-0 lead.

A one-out single in the fourth from Janelle Martinez preceded Charity Bibbs' second home run of the day and her team-leading twelfth of the season to give the Lady Indians a 4-0 lead.

Three singles in the fifth by Gulf Coast scored their first run of the day and put an end to McBurrows' and Landyn McAnnally's streak of shutout innings built up over the past four games. The two Chipola pitchers had shutout their opponents the last 18 innings prior to that.

Gulf Coast would get a solo home run in the fifth to cut the Chipola lead to 4-2 but McAnnally would retire eight of the next ten batters to preserve the win.

McAnnally picked up her tenth win of the season and her second consecutive complete game. The Chipola hurler allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
