Martinez named FCSAA/Region 8 Player of the Week

Janelle Martinez, a freshman outfielder from Ponce, Puerto Rico, has been named the FCSAA/Region 8 Softball Player of the Week.

Martinez batted .615 for the week of March 7-13 with four runs scored, three doubles, ten RBU and three stolen bases.

In the Lady Indians' win in game one of a doubleheader against L.B. Wallace Community College from Andalusia, Alabama, Martinez was 4-for-4 with five RBI.

She followed that performance up by going 4-for-6 with four RBI and three stolen bases in a doubleheader vs. Lansing Community College from Lansing, Michigan.

The Lady Indians are currently ranked seventh in the NJCAA and second in the FCSAA. Chipola is 26-2 on the season and on a 10-game win streak.

Coach Kelly Brookins' squad will being Panhandle Conference play this weekend at Frank Brown Park in Panama City. All five Panhandle teams will pariticpate in a round-robin tournament to kick-off the conference season. On Friday, the Lady Indians will take on Northwest Florida at 1 PM and Tallahassee at 3:30 PM. On Saturday, Chipola will face Pensacola at 2:30 PM and Gulf Coast at 5:00 PM.
