Chipola 12th seed at National Championship
The Lady Indians will take on 5th seed Wallace State-Hanceville in the first round on Tuesday
After a run through the FCSAA State Tournament that included defeats of the nationally ranked numbers one, five, and twelve teams, the Lady Indians are set to take on another top ranked opponent in the opening round of the NJCAA National Championship in Yuma, Arizona. Ranked 15th in the latest NJCAA Softball Rankings, Chipola will take on their fifth consecutive Top 20 team, 5th seed, Wallace State Community College out of Hanceville, Alabama, who were also ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA Softball Rankings.
In view of the 2020 season being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lady Indians are making their sixth consecutive national tournament appearance and, by virtue of their win in 2019, hold the title of defending National Champions. This is the ninth appearance overall in the national tournament for the Lady Indians, all under Head Coach Belinda Hendrix. In her 18 seasons at the helm of Chipola softball, Coach Hendrix's teams have won the National Championship three times (2007, 2015, & 2019) and have finished runner-up twice (2016 & 2018).
Chipola and Wallace-Hanceville will meet at 2 PM Mountain Standard Time (4 PM Central Daylight Time) from Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex in Yuma, Arizona. The two teams met earlier in the season with the Lions taking a 5-4 win on February 7 in Marianna.
