Men's Basketball take home tough win on the road

The #18 Indians (16-4, 11-3 PC) traveled to Pensacola State on Saturday College and won a high scoring battle, 91-87, for their third consecutive win.

After trailing by as many as ten, the Indians fought back to take the lead in the final minute of the first half. The Pirates would tie the score at 44-44 as the teams went to the locker room.

The Indians would start the second half on a 14-5 run and stayed ahead of the Pirates shooting fifty percent from behind the arc in the second half. With five minutes remaining, a Carlos Lemus three-point bucket would give the Indians a 76-70 cushion.

The Pirates refused to go away. With 13 seconds left, the Pirates hit a three to cut the Chipola lead to 90-87. A Pensacola foul with 4.9 seconds remaining sent Bryce Zephir to the line. Zephir hit the first of two free throws to give the Indians the two possession lead and put the game away.

Carlos Lemus matched his season-high with 20 points, shooting 67 percent from the three.

Jaeden Zackery ended the game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Bryce Zephir finished with 17 points, his third double digit scoring of the season.

Naheem McLeod had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks in the contest.

The Indians host Tallahassee Community College Tuesday night at 7:30 PM. The Indians trail the Eagles by one game in the conference standings. Both teams have clinched a spot in the FCSAA/Region 8 Tournament. Chipola is undefeated (11-0) at home this season and look to even up the season series with the Eagles.

From Coach Tyndall

"I was disappointed the way we defended but give Pensacola credit; they played very well and really competed. Carlos and JZ were solid and Bryce was very good off the bench for us. Now we have to get ready for a very talented TCC team on Tuesday."
