Indians score season-high, defeat Pensacola, 90-46

Bryce Zephir and the Indians scored their season high point totals on Saturday night as Chipola defeated Pensacola State College, 90-46, at the Milton H. Johnson Center. The #16 Indians (#3 FSCAA/Region 8) moved to 13-3 overall and 7-2 in Panhandle Conference play.

The Indians took control of the game from the start and never trailed the Pirates. Chipola rushed out to a 19-7 lead at the first media timeout and went on to shoot 56.5 percent in the first half. The Indians led at the break 39-26.

In the second half, the Indians completely shut down the Pirates. For the game, the Indians forced 20 turnovers and outrebounded the Pirates 32-19. Chipola limited Pensacola to 24 percent shooting in the second half, outscoring the Pirates 51-20.

"We played well defensively tonight particularly in the second half," said Coach Donnie Tyndall. "I was pleased with all our freshman big guys - Duke (Naheem McLeod),  Jo (Smith), Achor (Achor) and Faizon (Fields) all are continuing to improve on a nightly basis."

Bryce Zephir scored 21 off the bench for the Indians. The freshman guard was 7-of-9 from the floor including 3-for-4 from three point range; Zephir was also 4-of-4 from the free throw line. 

Twelve other players scored for the Indians including Carlos Lemus with 15 and Nae'Qwan Tomlin with 12. 

The Indians will travel to #9 Tallahassee Community College (13-2; 7-2 PC) on Tuesday night. The Eagles and the Indians are tied for first in the Panhandle Conference.

Tyndall looked forward to the third meeting between the two teams, "We have a quick turn around and have to get ready for the most talented team in the country and in my opinion the best guard in junior college basketball."
