Midweek Basketball Preview: Indians travel to Gulf Coast

Chipola will travel to Gulf Coast State College on Wednesday night for a Panhandle conference matchup.  

The women will tip-off at 5:30 followed by the men at 7:30. Visiting fans are NOT allowed at Gulf Coast State College Basketball games.

Women's Basketball

For the third time this season, the #1 Lady Indians (9-1, 6-1 PC) will face the Lady Commodores (6-4, 4-4 PC). Chipola won the previous two contests this season, 62-55 in Panama City and 68-56 at home.

Through 10 games, the Lady Indians are nationally ranked three-point percentage (8th) and in points allowed (9th). Chipola is averaging 69.8 points per game, while holding opponents to 53.5. 

A trio of players are averaging double figures for the Lady Indians. De'Myla Brown leads the Lady Indians in points per game (20.6), which ranks 9th in the NJCAA. Isadora Sousa is averaging 13 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 asissts per game. Jordan McLaughlin is averaging 10.6 points per game, with a team-high 5.3 assists per game.  

The Lady Indians are on a 4-game winning streak, beating Northwest Florida State College in their last game to claim the #1 spot in the NJCAA rankings.

Men's Basketball

The #16 Indians (11-3, 6-2 PC) take on Gulf Coast State College (5-6, 2-6 PC) with the season series split at 1-1. In the first matchup, the Commdores beat the Indians 68-65. The Indians bounced back and won the second meeting, 87-58. 

A trio of guards are averaging double figures on the season, Carlos Lemus (11.6), Lance Erving (10.1), and Jaeden Zackery (11.1). Zackery leads the Indians in steals (39), which ranks #4 in the NJCAA.  

The Indians are fourth in the NJCAA in points allowed, giving up only 61.2 points per game. The Indians are averagering 74.1 points per game on 48.7 percent shooting. Chipola is on a 5-game winning streak entering tonight's matchup.
