Indians dominate the second half to slam South Georgia Tech

After back to back games on the road, the Indians opened a three-game homestand with an impressive 81-58 win over South Georgia Tech College from Americus, Georgia. The Indians moved to 3-1 on the season and South Georgia Tech dropped to 0-2.

With 19 points and 10 rebounds, Carlos Lemus recorded the team's first double-double of the season and shot 55% from the field. Jaeden Zackery (13) and Lance Erving (12) also scored in double figures for the Indians.

The Indians and Jets would trade the lead back and forth numerous times throughout the first half with South Georgia Tech leading by as many as 8 with 12:30 reminaing in the first half. With 4:30 remaining before halftime, Bryce Zephir made a 3-pointer to put Chipola up 35-32. The Indians never trailed in the game again and led at halftime 43-35.

In the second half, Chipola outscored the Jets 38-23, shooting 45% from the field and holding South Georgia Tech to 35%. For the game, the Indians shot 52% and led by as many as 27 points while holding their opponents to 43% from the field.

The Indians will be back in action Thursday night at 7 PM as they welcome Palm Beach State College to The Milt. Chipola defeated the Panthers in Lake Worth on January 23, 69-51.

"I felt like our guys' defensive intensity was very good for most of the 40 minutes. We're still turning it over too much but we did make some progress in that area. I was proud in particular of Carlos Lemus and Achor Achor with some of the unselfish plays they had at each end of the floor."

  • After shooting a season low of 17% from three-point range on Sunday, the Indians shot 43% (9-23) from deep.
  • 13 of Chipola's 14 players scored in the game.
  • Chipola's bench was responsible for 30 of the Indians' 81 points.
  • Chipola moved to 2-0 when playing at home in the Milton H. Johnson Center.
