Indians begin Panhandle Conference play with TCC Eagles

INDIANS RANKED 3RD IN NJCAA; 1ST in FCSAA

After starting the season outside the NJCAA Preseason Top 25 Rankings, the Chipola Indians have streadily climbed near the top of the poll. The Indians are currently on a 12 game win streak and have won 20 games overall, including wins over four teams ranked in the preseason top 10. 

As a team, the Indians are hitting .300 and have belted 41 home runs through their first 26 games. For comparion, last season's team hit 46 home runs in their 49-game season. The 41 home runs hit by Chipola has them currently tied for the most in NJCAA D1 Baseball. Shane Lewis is second in the nation with 11 home runs and Tucker Flint is tied for seventh with 7. Lewis is also second in runs batted in with 34. Flint, the Indians' leadoff hitter much of the season, leads the nation in runs scored with 35 and he is tied for second in doubles with 12.

The Indians have also been strong on the mound, carrying a 3.02 earned run average into the conference season which is good enough for 11th nationally. The Indians are holding their opponents to a .230 batting average which is good enough for 20th in the NJCAA. Cedric De Grandpe is currently second in the nation in total wins with five. 

TALLAHASSEE OFF TO A HOT START

After winning just 19 games in 2021, the Eagles have opened the season winning 17 of their first 23 games.

Tallahassee is batting .295 on the season and is led offensively by sophomore Josh Pigozzo. Pigozzo leads the team in batting average with .373, doubles with 10, and triples with 3.
