Indians Win Region 8 Championship

Chipola (45-8) defeated Palm Beach State 12-0 on Wednesday to win the FCSAA Region 8 State Championship.

This is Chipola's 5th Region 8 Title (1983, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2017).

Chipola secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the third inning. Chipola scored on a groundout by Jacob Silverstein, a home run by Reynaldo Rivera, a single by Brody Wofford, a walk by Edmond Americaan, a single by Jose Caballero, and a single by Silverstein.

Riley Cabral (11-0) earned the win for Chipola Indians. He tossed six innings, allowing zero runs, three hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Andrew Grogan threw two innings, as two relievers helped Chipola Indians finish off the victory.

Chipola collected 16 hits. Max GuzmanCaballeroRiveraWofford, and Te'Kwaan Whyte each collected multiple hits. Caballero and Guzman all had three hits to lead the way.

Riley Cabral was named MVP Pitcher for the tournament.

Reynaldo Rivera was named MVP Player for the tournament. 

Jose Caballero, Jacob Silverstein, Evan Steele, Max Guzman, Te'kwaan Whyte, Edmond Americaan, Cabral, & Rivera were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Coach Jeff Johnson won FCSAA Coach of the Year.

The Indians will play in the World Series in Grand Junction, CO starting on May 27. Information for the tournament will be posted in the upcoming days.
