Big Innings Lead to 11-8 Win
Chipola knocks off Gulf Coast to win Game 1 of DH.
Chipola (31-7, 11-3) and Gulf Coast State played a taut affair on Saturday, but Chipola Indians eventually prevailed 11-8.
Chipola grabbed an early lead. They scored on a single by Reynaldo Rivera in the first inning, a single by Edmond Americaan in the second inning, a single by Jacob Silverstein in the second inning, and a single by Andrew Bechtold in the second inning.
Chipola scored six runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a single by Brody Wofford, an error, a double by Trey Dawson, and a single by Silverstein.
Gulf Coast State scored four runs in the seventh inning. Gulf Coast State's big inning was driven by a double by Carnegy Calzado, a double by Alec Aleywine, and a single by Jordan Tylski.
Ryan Shauger (5-2) earned the win. He threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, and striking out three. Two relievers helped Chipola close out the victory. Andrew Grogan threw one inning.
Chipola had 13 hits in the game. Jose Caballero, Americaan, and Silverstein each collected multiple hits. Silverstein, Te'Kwaan Whyte, Bechtold, and Americaan each drove in two runs to lead the way.
