Chipola hangs on to win 5-4
Chipola (27-4, 8-0) took the lead late and defeated Pensacola State 5-4 on Saturday. The game was tied at four with Chipola Indians batting in the top of the fifth when Max Guzman singled off of Alex Tyson, driving in one run.
Despite falling down by four runs in the first inning, Pensacola State tried to fight back. Pensacola State scored four runs in the failed comeback on a single by Thomas in the second, a wild pitch in the fourth, and a single by Wilfredo Alvarez in the fourth.
Chipola Indians took an early lead in the first inning. Jose Caballero drove in one when he homered in the first inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Pensacola State tied things up at four. With two outs in the fourth inning Alvarez drove in one run when he singled.
Robbie Knox (3-0) earned the win for Chipola Indians. He went three and a third innings, giving up zero runs, three hits, and striking out two.
Evan Steele started the game. He pitched two innings, giving up two runs, four hits, striking out four, and walking zero.
Chipola had eight hits in the game. Caballero and Andrew Bechtold each collected multiple hits. Jacob Silverstein and Max Guzman each drove in two runs.
Brody Wofford had a huge outfield assist to preserve the lead in the fifth.
The Indians play Northwest Florida next week on Tuesday and Thursday at home. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm CST.
