Chipola Hits Way to Win

The Chipola Indians (41-15) kept their season alive as they jumped out to an early lead on St. Johns River and captured a 13-5 victory on Wednesday at Henley Field. 

The game was decided quickly as the Chipola Indians exerted their will early with seven runs in the first three innings.

An RBI single by Reynaldo Rivera, a two-run double by Maurice Cooley, and a grand slam home run by Myles Edwards in the first inning supplied the early offense for the Indians.

Edwards racked up five RBIs on two hits for the Chipola Indians.

Riley Cabral got the start. He threw 3 innings before giving way to Addison ReedReed had an impressive outing against SJR. St. Johns River managed just three hits off of Reed, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his three innings of work.

St. Johns River jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. St. Johns River's rally started when Nick Owens singled. St. Johns River then tacked on more runs when Owens scored on a groundout by Nick Koslowski.

After pushing across three runs in the top of the fourth, St. Johns River faced just a 7-5 deficit. An RBI double by Omar Villaman and a two-run single byAlec Dowell sparked St. Johns River's rally. Reed ended the inning by getting Matthew Rhodes to strike out.

Chipola responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and then the Indians tacked on another four runs in the fifth. Edwards kicked things off with a single, plating Te'Kwaan Whyte.

Edwards had a career day with 5 RBIs. He was 2-3 with 2 runs scored as well. 

Wood Myers was 2-4 on the day.

Keiner Colmenarez had another multi-hit game going 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. 

Reynaldo Rivera was 2-3 with 3 RBIs. 

Chipola faces elimination again and will play Thursday, May 19 at 4pm EST against the winner of the Polk State and Santa Fe game.
