Chipola loses via Walk-Off

In a resumed gamed, the Chipola Indians (40-15) gave way to a Santa Fe walk-off solo blast in the ninth inning, dropping a heartbreaker, 10-9, Tuesday at Henley Field.

With the score tied at nine, Hugo Valdes came to the plate and homered.

The Chipola Indians' Keiner Colmenarez was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Additional home runs for Santa Fe came when Matt Allen homered in the first inning and Valdes homered in the seventh and ninth innings.

Stephen Smith, Allen and Valdes helped lead Santa Fe. They combined for seven hits and eight RBIs.

Bowden Francis (9-3) was charged with the loss. He threw 4 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed four runs.

Four relief pitchers finished off the game for Santa Fe. Ricky Miranda faced 22 batters in relief, while Chris Hopkins managed to record one out to aid the victory.

In the top of the first, the Chipola Indians grabbed the early lead, 2-0. More runs came home for the Chipola Indians when Caballero scored when Tyler Osik was hit by a pitch.

Santa Fe answered the Chipola Indians' top inning with two runs of its own in the first. Santa Fe scored on a two-run home run by Allen.

After posting three runs in the second, Santa Fe again scored three in the fifth. In the second, Santa Fe scored on an RBI single by Tyler Kinney, bringing home Robbie Hanlon.

Chipola faces St. John's River State College in an elimination game at 3pm EST today at Henley Field.
