Chipola Wins Tourney Opener

In the FCSAA Region 8 / State Tournament, the Chipola Indians (40-14) beat St. Petersburg College on Monday 10-2 at Henley Field in seven innings. 

The Indians scored four runs in the second and fourth to propel themselves past St. Pete.

Tyler Osik got a hit in each of his three at bats. He singled in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. He scored 3 times and knocked in 2 RBIs. 

Addison Reed started for Chipola, going 3 innings. In relief, Bowden Francis was credited with the win (9-2). Francis held St. Petersburg College hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Te'Kwaan Whyte, Wood Myers, Osik and Rivera combined for nine hits and eight RBIs.

The Chipola Indians didn't relinquish the lead after scoring four runs in the second inning when they scored on an error, a groundout by Whyte, and a two-run single by Osik.

Chipola will now play Sante Fe at 4pm EST / 3pm CST tomorrow, May 17, in a winner's bracket game. Both teams are 1-0 in the tournament.
