Chipola Holds On, Wins 11-9

An outstanding effort by Wood MyersReynaldo Rivera, and Michael Hickman lifted the Indians (31-9, 10-1) to an 11-9 win over Pensacola State on Monday at Chipola College.

Michael Hickman rocked Pensacola State with two home runs. Michael Hickman went 2-2 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Michael Hickman homered in the first and fourth innings.

The bottom of the first saw the Chipola Indians take an early lead, 2-0. The Chipola Indians attack began with a single from Wood Myers. A stolen base then moved Myers from first to second. Michael Hickman homered, bringing home Myers.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 20 total runs and 25 hits during the game. Both bullpens were busy with 12 pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.

The Indians pulled out the win thanks to a strong fourth inning. The Indians went up for good on an RBI double by Tyler Osik off Kaven Brown, scoring Keiner Colmenarez.

Addison Reed got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out two, walked two and surrendered seven hits. Bowden Francis collected his first save. 

Home runs for the Chipola Indians came when Michael Hickman homered in the first and fourth innings and Reynaldo Rivera hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.

The Chipola Indians didn't give up the lead after the fourth inning. Additional runs came from a solo home run by Michael Hickman.

The Chipola Indians built upon their lead with five runs in the fifth. A bases loaded walk scored Jay Estes to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Rivera's blast, plating Myers, Michael Hickman and Jose Caballero.

Myers was 5-5 on the day with 4 singles and a triple.

Michael Hickman was 2-2 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs.

Reynaldo Rivera was 1-3 with 1 run scored and 4 RBIs. 

Chipola plays next at Pensacola State on Wednesday, April 6 at 5pm CST.
