About the teams
Fans will be in for an exciting time as all four teams that will compete on Robert Trammell Court that evening are currently ranked in the National Junior College Athletic Association's Top 25 in their respective sport.
As of January 17, the Chipola Lady Indians are 20-0 overall and sit atop the Panhandle Conference standings at 2-0. The ladies are currently #8 in the NJCAA rankings published Monday, January 13, 2025. Coach Mitch Rolls' squad defeated #6 Gulf Coast, 94-67, on Wednesday, January 15 to win their 20th game in a row to start the season. The win broke the record for the best start in Chipola women's basketball history that was held by the 2014-2015 Lady Indians that went on to win the Panhandle, State, and National Championships. Prior to facing off with NWF, the Lady Indians will travel to Tallahassee State College on Wednesday, January 22.
The NWF women are 17-0 on the season and have been ranked 2nd in the NJCAA since the preseason behind last season's National Champion, Hutchinson Community College. The Raiders have a pair of games to play before coming to Marianna. On Saturday, January 18, they will travel to #20 Pensacola State College and on Wednesday, January 22, they will host #6 Gulf Coast State College.
In the FCSAA D1 Womens' Basketball Coaches' Poll, the two teams are at the top of the rankings with the Raiders holding first over the Lady Indians.
The Chipola men, fresh off a 60-57 win over Gulf Coast on Wednesday, January 15, are currently 20th in the NJCAA Rankings and 4th in the FCSAA D1 Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll. Coach Tyndall and the Indians are currently 16-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference action. The Indians have a game on Wednesday, January 22, against the TSC Eagles prior to squaring off with the Raiders.
After being the odd man out on Wednesday night in the five-team conference schedule, the Raiders are 15-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play after a 73-65 win against Pensacola at home last Saturday afternoon. NWF is 8th in the latest NJCAA Rankings and 2nd in the FCSAA Coaches' Poll. Like their women's team, the NWF men will travel to #20 Pensacola State College on Saturday, January 18 then host the Commodores on Wednesday, January 22.
