Five Indians sign professional contracts

Coach Jeff Johnson announced this week that five former Indians baseball players who were selected in last month's Major League Baseball Draft have signed professional contracts.

Cam Collier, who was selected 18th overall, will reunite with teammate Kenya Huggins in the Cincinnati Reds' organization. Huggins was selected in the fourth round with the 123rd pick.

Tucker Flint, the 2022 Panhandle Conference Player of the Year and NJCAA Third Team All-American, was taken by the Anaheim Angels in the 13th round with the 388th pick.

Cedric De Grandpre, a two year starter on the mound for the Indians, is headed to play in the Atlanta Braves' organization after being selected in the 13th round with the the 395th pick.

Also in the 13th round. Bo Bonds, a stand-out on the mound for the Indians in 2020 and 2021, was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 398th pick. Bonds spent 2022 as a reliever for the University of Louisiana. Bonds had a 5-3 record and an ERA of 3.11. He had 83 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched.

The five signees in the 2022 draft brings the total number of players drafted in Coach Jeff Johnson's 26-year tenure to 156.
