Indians Add New Assistant Basketball Coaches

Chipola College has hired two new men's basketball assistants.

Dennan Morrow comes to Chipola from Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Before joining the Falcons' staff, he was at Barton Community College in Barton, Kan., where he posted success as both a player and assistant coach. Most recently, Morrow helped lead Barton CC to a 25-8 season record and an appearance in the final four of the Region VI Championships. Morrow also helped three Cougars on the 2016-17 squad earn spots at NCAA Division I programs and postseason honors, including two All-Region VI team selections. The Barton men’s basketball team also posted the highest team GPA in the Jayhawk conference with a 3.17.

A native of Larned, Kansas, Morrow earned his bachelor’s degree in business management and master’s in academic advising from Kansas State University while also serving as a graduate assistant under coaches Frank Martin and Bruce Weber. During his time as a GA, Morrow and the Wildcats won the Big 12 Championship and made three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Prior to starting his coaching career, Morrow was a standout star for the Barton Cougars from 2008-2010. He holds the record for a single game three-point performance and helped lead the Cougars to the 2009 Jayhawk West title as a freshman. After leaving Barton, Morrow played one season at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he averaged just over nine points a game and earned NAIA Academic All-American honors.

"Dennan is a guy I knew I could bring in and wouldn't have to groom. He can take some stuff off my plate," said head coach Brendan Foley. "He's extremely good at teaching on the court, has extensive recruiting ties, and is one of the top junior college assistants in the country. He's hit the ground running and has been a great addition."

Tim Peete, a Memphis, Tennessee native, spent two years at UNCG as a graduate assistant manager on head coach Wes Miller's staff in 2016-17 and 2017-18. Peete helped the Spartans win the Southern Conference regular season championship last year. The Spartans won a program-record 25 games during the 2016-17 season, including a team-record 14-4 mark in league play and triumphing that record the following year with 27 wins and a 15-3 record in conference. UNCG advanced to the postseason for the second-straight year, earning the SoCon's automatic bid into the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The following season, he helped the Spartans clinch another regular season champion as well as a conference championship, giving the Spartans their first automatic bid to the NCAA tournament in 17 years.

Peete was a four-year letter winner at the University of Tulsa under head coaches Doug Wojcik and Danny Manning. He played in 129 games during his career, including 61 starts at the guard and forward positions. He helped Tulsa posted a 74-56 record during his four seasons while being a three year captain.

In his senior season, Peete played in all 34 games, starting 33 games for the Hurricane on its way to a 21-13 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament as Conference USA Champions. He averaged 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game as a senior while also earning the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award.

In 2012-13, he helped Tulsa to a 17-16 overall record and an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). He made 33 appearances and started 18 games as a junior. His play also helped Tulsa record a 17-14 record as a sophomore and a 19-13 record as a freshman.

Peete earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Tulsa in 2014 and his master’s in Applied Arts and Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2018.

"Tim is an up and coming star in the coaching ranks," said Foley. "He's played at the level our athletes aspire to get to and learned under some great coaches. He has a temendous work ethic and really understands the game."

"I'm excited to have them both here," said Foley. "They're going to be really good for the Chipola program and our student-athletes."
