The Chipola men's basketball team (17-3; 2-1), ranked number three in the state and number nine in the country, will head to Panama City on Monday to take on the Commodores of Gulf Coast State College. Gulf Coast is 13-6 overall and one game behind the Indians in conference play at 1-2.

After losing last season's first contest between the two teams, the Indians have defeated the Commodores four conesecutive times, including an 84-58 win in the first round of the FCSAA/Region VIII Tournament last April.

The two teams were scheduled to play last Wednesday but the game was postponed due to COVID protocol within the Gulf Coast program.

The Indians defeated Baton Rouge Community College this past Saturday in a non-conference game. Nae'qwan Tomlin and Shay Davis each scored 15 points as Chipola easily handled the Bears, 100-55.

The Commodores missed an opportunity to pick up a conference road win at Tallahassee as they fell to the Eagles in a close one, 67-65.

Gulf Coast averages 74.7 points per game and is shooting 47.8 % from the floor this season. The Commodores are led in scoring by Tauris Watson, a freshman guard from West Columbia, South Carolina. Watson averages 16.6 points per game and is shooting 47.0 % from the floor.

This is the first of three meetings between the two teams. The Indians and Commodores will face one another in Marianna on February 2 and again in Panama City to close out the regular season on February 16.
