Howell's Walk-Off Advances Indians Over Barton
A walk-off home run propelled CHIPOLA Indians to a decisive, dramatic victory over Barton, 10-8. The game was tied at eight with CHIPOLA Indians batting in the bottom of the ninth when Jared Howell homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
CHIPOLA Indians built a five-run lead in the third inning and then held off Barton's charge. Barton scored six runs in the failed comeback on a groundout by Bonar in the fifth, a grand slam by Fowler in the seventh, and a home run by Engroff in the ninth.
Barton got things moving in the first inning. Bonar singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
CHIPOLA Indians notched five runs in the third inning. Alex Webb, David Meadows, and Edmond Americaan powered the big inning with RBIs.
Barton scored four runs in the seventh inning. Barton scored its runs on a grand slam by Fowler.
Howell was the winning pitcher for CHIPOLA Indians. He allowed three hits and one run over two and a third innings, striking out one and walking zero. Christian Collazo threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Curry was on the mound for Barton. He went three and a third innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out four. Howe and Pomeroy entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.
Phillip Sanderson started the game for CHIPOLA Indians. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one
CHIPOLA Indians tallied three home runs on the day. Americaan had a four bagger in the third inning. Max Guzman had a homer in the sixth inning. Howell put one out in the ninth inning.
CHIPOLA Indians tallied 13 hits on the day. Americaan, Francisco Urbaez, Howell, and Webbeach managed multiple hits for CHIPOLA Indians. Americaan led CHIPOLA Indians with four hits in five at bats.
Barton tallied 12 hits. Engroff and Bonar all managed multiple hits for Barton. Engroff went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Barton in hits.
The Indians advance to face Temple tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. MST/3:00 p.m. CST.
