Greg Franklin begins his eleventh season in Marianna as the head coach of the Lady Indians basketball team. In ten seasons at the helm, Coach Franklin has compiled a 247-60 record, won the 2015 NJCAA National Championship, three FCSAA/Region VIII Championships, and two Panhandle Conference Championships. His teams have reached the NJCAA National Tournament six times and the FCSAA/Region VIII Tournament seven times.

The 2021-2022 Lady Indians became the 17th Chipola women's basketball team to reach the FSCAA/Region VIII Tournament and the 10th Chipola team to appear in the NJCAA National Tournament. The Lady Indians entered the State Tournament as the #5 overall seed and won in overtime, 63-61, over the #4 seed, Florida SouthWestern, in the first round. The Lady Indians would fall in the semifinals to the #1 seed, Northwest Florida, but received an at-large bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. Playing as the #16 seed, the Lady Indians fell to #17 seed, and eventual National Champion, Tyler Junior College, 67-65, in overtime. Jordan McLaughlin (Third Team) and Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins (Honorable Mention) were named NJCAA All-Americans in 2021-22.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NJCAA delayed the start of the 2020-2021 season until January. Following an abbreviated non-conference schedule, the Panhandle Conference teams played a 16-game schedule, four games against one another. The Lady Indians finished the conference with a 12-4 record and earned the #2 seed at the FCSAA/Region VIII Tournament in Niceville, Florida. The Lady Indians defeated Hillsborough, Indian River, and Gulf Coast to win the college's seventh FCSAA/Region VIII Championship. Chipola received the #6 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament in Lubbock and following a bye in the first round, faced Eastern Arizon College. A three-pointer at the buzzer by Shimei Muhammad gave the Lady Indians a 71-68 in their opening game. Chipola needed a big fourth quarter from sophomore De'Myla Brown to defeat #11 seed Tyler Junior College, 55-49, in the quarterfinals. Brown scored 13 of the team's final 19 points to propel the Lady Indians into the semifinals against the #2 seed, Trinity Valley Community College. The Cardinals defeated the Lady Indians, 77-66, ending Chipola's season at 20-5. De'Myla Brown was named to the NJCAA All-America First Team.

Coach Franklin’s 2016-17 Chipola team (28-5) made it to the Elite 8 of the NJCAA National Tournament after finishing as Runner-Up in the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Championship. Daneille Garven was named to the NJCAA All-American second team.

In 2014-2015, Franklin led the Lady Indians to the college's first National Championship in basketball, and was named NJCAA, FCSAA, and Panhandle Coach of the Year.  The 2014-15 Lady Indians (34-1) defeated Hutchinson Community College, who was previously unbeaten, 54-46. Evelyn Akhator was named Tournament MVP, an NJCAA All-American, and finished with the new NJCAA Season Record of 584 Rebounds. Akhator moved on to the University of Kentucky and was drafted third overall in the first round of the 2017 WNBA Draft.

Franklin’s 2013-2014 team captured the Panhandle Conference title by going undefeated in conference play (12-0). It was Chipola's first conference title in women's basketball since 1990. The squad also won the NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Championship for the first time in five years and advanced to the NJCAA Final Four, finishing 3rd, with a 34-2 record.

In 2012-2013, Coach Franklin's first season, the Lady Indians finished as runner-up in the Region VIII Championship and earned an at-large bid to the National Tournament where they finished in the Elite Eight.

Prior to Chipola, Coach Franklin spent five seasons at Mississippi State University as an assistant coach for Sharon Fanning. He helped MSU claim wins in the NCAA Tournament multiple years, including the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance in 2010.

Franklin served in various positions at Southeastern Illinois College starting in 1997 as an assistant men’s coach.  He was named the head women’s coach in 2002-03, and also served as AD. In five seasons at SIC, he posted a 154-25 record and led the 2006-07 squad to fourth place in the National Tournament. Franklin coached WNBA player Amber Holt while at Southeastern Illinois Community College. Holt was tajen ninth overall in the first round by the Connecticut Sun and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2017.

A native of Kentucky, Franklin earned a B.S. degree at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, where he played from 1989-1993. He was named All-Ohio Valley Conference three times and finished his college career with 1,000+ points. He is married to the former Alicia Hudson, of Defuniak Springs, Florida.

“I’ve coached at every level from junior high to NCAA Division 1 and Chipola is the best coaching job I’ve ever had. These are some of the best fans anywhere. Being a competitive guy, I like that the bar is set so high. I like that kind of atmosphere.” - Coach Greg Franklin
