Conference Preview: Chipola men seek to continue win streak against NWF

Watch: #6 Indians (15-2; 1-0) vs. #4 Raiders (17-1; 1-0)

On Thursday night, the #6 ranked Chipola Indians will look to continue their dominance on the Raiders' home floor. Already this season, the Indians defeated Miami-Dade, 85-47, at Raider Arena. In the 2020-2021 season, Coach Donnie Tyndall and his squad won five games in Niceville including two regular season victories over the Raiders and three wins en route to cutting down the nets following the FCSAA/Region VIII Championship hosted by Northwest Florida. In all, the Indians have won their last eight games at Raider Arena, dating back to the 2018-2019 season.

 

Both teams won their Panhandle Conference opener on Tuesday night. Chipola dominated Tallahassee, 92-58, at The Milt and Northwest Florida put away Gulf Coast, 79-67. 

Game Notes:

  • Chipola is also on an 8-game win streak against the Raiders. The Indians have swept Northwest Florida the last two season. The last time the Raiders defeated the Indians was in the 2018-2019 season.
  • Northwest Florida State head coach, Greg Heiar, spent six seasons at Chipola, including the last five (2004-2009) as the head coach of the Indians. His teams won 164 games during his head coaching tenure and was named Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year five times and Regional VIII Coach of the Year four times. His team won five Panhandle Conference titles and had four appearances in the National JC Tournament, including a third place finish in 2009 when his team posted a 35-2 record.
  • The two teams are ranked at the top of the FCSAA Coaches' Poll. Northwest Florida is ranked first with Chipola in the second position.
  • The Raiders average 82.9 points per game while holding their opponents to 61.8 points per game. Chipola averages 85.0 points per game and allows just 61.6 points per game.
  • Sophomore guard, Tre Clark, leads the Raiders in scoring with 12.6 points per game. The Covington, Georgia native transferred to Northwest Florida from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Elsewhere in the Panhandle Conference Tonight

Pensacola State (9-7; 0-0) plays their first conference game against Gulf Coast State College (11-6; 0-1). 

Tallahassee Community College is idle.
