Lady Indians Basketball adds two to coaching staff

Chipola women's basketball head coach, Greg Franklin, announced the addition of Reshad Baker and Rachel Johnson to the Lady Indians' staff. Baker and Johnson will join Assistant Coach Matt Creamer on Coach Franklin's 2022-2023 staff.

Reshad Baker comes to Marianna after spending the 2021-2022 season as the Coordinator of Recruiting Operations for women's basketball at Morehead State University in Kentucky. At Morehead, Baker was reunited with head coach Cayla Petree after working for her in two previous stops at South Plains College in Texas and Gulf Coast State College in Panama City. 

Baker spent the 2021 season at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi. At EMCC, he helped guide the the Lady Lions to an overall record of 12-5, including 10-4 in conference and a semi-final apperance in the NJCAA Division One, Region XXIII Tournament.

Previously, Baker served as owner and head coach of the New Orleans-based Lady Flames Elite AAU team for six years. Before beginning his journey with the Lady Flames, he served as the director of the Louisiana Lady Pumas Elite AAU team, led by Dee Brown, former Louisiana Tech standout. In 2015, the Lady Pumas claimed the AAU Division I National Championship that featured former WNBA player Kalani Brown.

During his eight-year period within the New Orleans AAU women's basketball scene, Baker was associated with four AAU state championship teams, including three undefeated clubs.

Baker, a native of New Orleans, completed his associate's degree in business administration from Delgado Community College in 2017 and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern University in 2019.

Rachel Johnson, a member of the 2019-2020 Lady Indians' basketball team, returns to Chipola as a volunteer assistant on Coach Franklin's staff. 

Johnson, a native of Eufaula, Alabama, began her collegiate playing career at Southern Union State Community College in Wadley, Alabama. She earned NJCAA All-North First Team honors for the Lady Bison as a freshman, averaging 17.6 ppoints per game and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Johnson transferred to Chipola for her sophomore season where she was named to the All-Panhandle Conference First Team. She averaged 13 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while starting all 28 games for Coach Franklin.

After Chipola, Johnson went on to play at Wichita State University and Georgia Southern University. She is currently completing her degree in Human Performance and Fitness Management from Georgia Southern.
