Lady Indians fall to #4 Northwest Florida

MARIANNA, Fla. – A low scoring second quarter doomed the Lady Indians (6-8, 0-1 PC) in their first Panhandle Conference game of the 2022-23 season as #4 Northwest Florida (13-2, 1-0 PC) defeated Chipola, 66-52, on Saturday night at The Milt.

After falling behind 19-4 in the first seven minutes of the game, the Chipola women closed out the first quarter on an 11-1 run to pull within five, 20-15.

Although the momentum shifted, the Lady Indians failed to score in the second quarter until under two minutes before halftime. The Raiders built their lead up to 18 points before taking a 35-19 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders continued to stretch their lead in the first ten minutes of the second half. After falling behind by as many as 22, the Lady Indians trailed 53-34 after three quarters of play.

The Lady Indians put together a solid fourth quarter as they outscored the Raiders, 18-13. Sophomore guard Ladajah Huguley provided a spark by scoring eight points in the period after being held scoreless in the first thirty minutes of play.

Ashley Baez led Chipola with 14 points. Brenda McKinney just missed a double-double with nine points and twelve rebounds.

The Lady Indians will continue Panhandle Conference play on Wednesday night when they travel to Pensacola for a 5:30 tip. The #16 Lady Pirates lost their conference opener on Saturday afternoon to #1 Gulf Coast, 55-48.
