Chipola Lady Indians Play for National Title

The Chipola women's basketball program is on the verge of its first National Championship.

The Lady Indians beat Trinity Valley in the National semifinals Friday at the Bicentennial Center 62-48. That earns Chipola the title game berth against a 36-0 Hutchinson team, which won the other semifinal, 63-55 over Walters State.

Chipola again starting strong, good defense and rebounding helped them to build a 29-20 halftime lead.

With a good early second half spurt, Trinity cut the lead to just two, but a 10-2 run by Chipola, with Juilien, Gilmore and Akhator all contributing big buckets, stretched the lead to double digits again.

Chipola held on from there to win by 14, to take a 33-1 record into the championship game.
