Lady Indians Win Big in Daytona

The No. 5 Chipola Lady Indians traveled to Daytona over the weekend to conclude their non-conference schedule at the Daytona State Holiday Classic and came away with two more victories.

After opening Sunday with a 93-48 victory over Broward College, the Lady Indians came back Monday and knocked off the host Daytona State 63-40 to improve to 16-1 on the season.



On Sunday, sophomore Brianna Wright continued her outstanding play in place of injured starting center Evelyn Akhator by putting in a game-high 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting.

Tiffany Lewis also had 21 points on 5-of-7 from the three-point line, while Rahni Bell scored 15 points and Treyvonna Brooks 11.

Sade Tutson led Broward with 13 points, with Stanetta Givens adding 11 and Jessica Casanova 10.

In Monday's finale, it was the sophomore Bell who sparked the Lady Indians by making 6-fo-12 from long distance to notch a game-high 19 points, while Tiffany Lewis matched her with 19 of her own.

Wright also put in seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Paden Smith led Daytona State with 13 points.

The Lady Indians will next open up Panhandle Conference play on Saturday in Pensacola against the Pensacola State Lady Pirates at 5:30 p.m.

Pensacola State comes in at 9-7 on the year and ranked No. 9 in the state, while the Lady Indians are ranked No. 2 in the team behind top-ranked Gulf Coast State.
