The Chipola Lady Indians and Gulf Coast State Lady Commodores split a doubleheader in Panhandle Conference action Wednesday night in Marianna, with Chipola taking the first 2-1 before Gulf Coast dominated the second 15-2 in five innings.

With the split, Chipola went to 21-11 overall and 1-3 in league play, with Gulf Coast now 20-17 and 2-2 in the Panhandle.

Chipola won the first game on the strength of a dominant pitching performance from starter Jessica Elliott, who went all seven innings and gave up just one unearned run on one hit and four walks while striking out eight to pick up her 12th win of the season.

Run support came in the form of single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Gulf Coast State scoring its only run in the top of the seventh.

Alyssa Hathcoat had a hit and scored a run, with Jenna Reeves, Nalleli Lopez, and Lindsay Wurm each adding a hit.

Things started out well for the Lady Indians in the second game, going up 2-1 in the first inning thanks to a pair of Lady Commodores errors.

But the game got away from Chipola in the top of the third, with a disastrous inning that featured three errors and eight Gulf Coast hits paving the way for nine Lady Commodore runs.

RBI singles by Megan Griffith, Anna Martin, and Brittany Wylie followed by an RBI double by Maleah McCombs made it 5-2 Gulf Coast, with Katie Gardner following with another RBI hit to make it a four-run margin moments later.

After a pair of errors allowed for two more runs, Katie White added an RBI triple and Griffith contributed her second RBI hit of the inning to make it 10-2 Gulf Coast.
