#6 Indians set to host the Milton Johnson Classic this weekend

This weekend, the #6 Chipola Indians will host their annual classic named for legendary head coach Milton H. Johnson in the building that also bears his name. Gulf Coast State College along with two colleges from Georgia, Andrew and Georgia Highlands, will join the Indians at The Milt for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday in this year's Milton Johnson Classic.

Daily admission for the two-day event is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door. Chipola Appreciation Club members should enter through the back of the Milton H. Johnson Center. Chipola's games will be broadcast on the College's YouTube channel. Games not involving Chipola will not be broadcast.

The #6 Indians (6-0) are coming off one of their best performances of the season. Chipola defeated South Georgia Tech, 85-57, at home on Tuesday Night, courtesy of six different players scoring double digits. The Indians were led by sophomore guard, Deyton Albury, who dropped in 15 points in the win.

On the season, Chipola is averaging 81.2 ppg and shooting 46.3 perceont from the floor. Sophomore transfer guard, Derrick Butler, averages 17.4 ppg to lead the Indians.

Gulf Coast

After dropping a pair of games to start the season, including a 79-74 loss to South Georgia Tech on opening night, the Commodores have won their last three games and sit at 3-2 on the young season. Gulf Coast will face Georgia Highlands at 5 PM on Friday then take on Andrew College on Saturday at 1 PM. 

The Indians' Panhandle Conference rival will be taking on Georgia Highlands in back-to back games after defeating the Chargers, 78-74, in Rome, Georgia, last Saturday. 

The Commodores are averaging 79.8 ppg and have a field goal percentage of 48.3 percent. They are led by sophomore guard, Chase Forte, who averages just under 20 points per game.

Andrew College

Chipola will take on Andrew College, from Cuthbert, Georgia, at 7 PM on Friday night. The Tigers are 2-3 on the season and won their last game on Wednesday night, 67-51, over Lurleen B. Wallace Community College of Andalusia, Alabama.

The Tigers are led by a 6'7 freshman from Dillon, South Carolina, Demarco Bethea. Along with averaging 13.7 points per game and making over 60 percent of his shots, Bethea has also hauled in 8.7 rebounds per game.

The Tigers will face the Commodores in the first game on Saturday at 1 PM.

Georgia Highlands

After hosting their own tournament a week ago where they played Chipola and Gulf Coast, the Chargers will face off against the same Panhandle teams this weekend. Georgia Highlands will open play with Gulf Coast at 5 PM on Firday then wrap up the Milton Johnson Classic with the host team on Saturday at 3 PM.

The Chargers are 2-2 on the season with their only losses coming to the Indians and the Commodores. Georgia Highlands fell to Chipola, 92-82, last Friday night followed by a 78-74 loss to Gulf Coast on Saturday.

P.J. Carter, a sophomore transfer from Campbell University, leads the Chargers with 17.7 ppg. The Fairborn, Georgia native scored 22 points off the bench against the Indians in their first meeting.
