The Chipola Indians and the Harcum Bears will meet for the first time on Thursday night at Hutchinson Sports Arena with a berth in the NJCAA Tournament Final Four on the line. The #5 seed Indians and the #13 seed Bears are set to tip-off at 6 PM with #1 seed Salt Lake Community College awaiting the winner.
Chipola advanced to the quarterfinals with a resounding 85-62 win over Hutchinson Community College in front of a few thousand fans clad in red and blue supporting the hometown team.
Harcum has won two games in the tournament, defeating 20 seed Southern Idaho, 92-65, in the opening round and then taking out 4 seed John A. Logan, 109-91, in the second round.
Game Notes
- Something's gotta give: Both teams are 8-0 on neutral floors this season.
- Final Four Experience: Each team is looking to make a return to the Final Four. The Bears last played in the Final Four at the end of the 2013-2014 season. Chipola is looking to make back-to-back trips to the Final Four.
- New Kids on the Block: Harcum has only had a basketball program since 2005 and is making their third appearance in the NJCAA Tournament.
- Back Again: The Indians are making their 17th appearance at the NJCAA Tournament. Chipola is tied for 7th in most appearances at the tournament.
- Rankings: Both teams finished the regular season in the top ten. Chipola finished 7th with Harcum close behind at 9th.
- Common Opponent: Each team had a loss to a common foe - Eastern Florida State College. On November 12, the Indians lost on the Titans' home floor in overtime, 73-71. Harcum lost a home contest to the Titans, 81-77, on December 10.
