Indians Finish Weekend with Two Wins

The Indians defeated Grand Rapids in both games today to finish up the weekend.

In game one, the Indians stole the lead late and defeated Grand Rapids 6-5. Chipola trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Taylor Clapp singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Grand Rapids scored three runs in the second inning, but Chipola still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Grand Rapids came thanks to an error on a ball put in play by Trevor Patterson and Jake Hanson.

Grand Rapids opened up scoring in the first inning, when an error scored one run for Grand Rapids.

Michael Cullen was the winning pitcher for the Indians. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over three and a third innings, striking out three. Jaylen Nowlin and Daniel Cerda entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Cerda recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Chipola.

Josh Avink started the game for Grand Rapids. He surrendered six runs on ten hits over six innings, striking out two.

Luis Guerrero started the game for the Indians. He allowed zero hits and four runs over two innings, striking out two

Chipola racked up ten hits. CerdaClapp, and Cameron Gray all managed multiple hits for the Indians. Cerda went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Indians in hits.

In game two, the Indians had no trouble on offense, winning big over Grand Rapids 10-2.

Chipola opened up scoring in the second inning. Nicholas Marrero grounded out, scoring one run.

The Indians put up three runs in the fifth inning. Chipola's batters contributing to the big inning included Michael CullenKeniel De Leon, and Chris Williams, all driving in runs in the inning.

Andrew Moore got the win for the Indians. He allowed one hit and one run over six innings, striking out ten. Jackson Minor threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Sam Schmitt led things off on the mound for Grand Rapids. He went three and a third innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out one. Dalton Vander Ark and Bradley Dunn entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings and one inning respectively.

Daniel Cerda led Chipola with three hits in five at bats. The Indians didn't commit a single error in the field. Marrero had the most chances in the field with seven.

Chipola is 15-6 on the year. They have six games scheduled for the upcoming week, starting on the road at Gordon State on Tuesday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m.
