Chipola Advances to State Title Game

In an elimination game, Chipola (43-15) came out on top against conference rival Gulf Coast in the FCSAA Region 8 / State Tournament held at Henley Field in Lakeland, FL. Chipola won 9-1 in 8 innings.

Reese Cooley had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.

Brady Acker (5-0) picked up the win for the Chipola Indians. Acker allowed one earned run, seven hits and two walks while striking out six over eight innings of work.

Cooley, Estes, Keiner Colmenarez and Tyler Osik helped lead the Chipola Indians. They combined for 11 hits and seven RBIs.

Gulf Coast struck early, scoring one run in the top of the fourth, but the Indians never trailed after scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth on a two-run single by Colmenarez.

The Indians piled on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh. A double by Estes ignited the offense, scoring Cooley. That was followed up by Wood Myers's single, bringing home Estes.

Chipola scored in the eighth on an RBI double by Maurice Cooley, a two-run single by Jay Estes, a two-run single by Estes, and an RBI single by Michael Hickman.

Chipola will now play Santa Fe in the FCSAA Region 8 / State Title Game tomorrow, May 21 at 10am EST. The winner will clinch a berth to Grand Junction, Colorado for the NJCAA World Series.
