Whyte's Walk-Off Wins It

Te'Kwaan Whyte's walk-off solo home run off of Deviner McCray with two outs in the 12th boosted the Chipola Indians (34-9, 13-1) to a 9-8 win over Gulf Coast State at Chipola College on Saturday.

Whyte got on base two times in the game for the Chipola Indians. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the twelfth inning.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 17 runs and 23 hits, including eight extra base hits. Both bullpens were busy with eight pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.

Addison Reed (6-1) recorded the win for the Chipola Indians. He tossed one inning of shutout ball. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Franklin Van Gurp was effective in relief. Van Gurp threw 3 innings while allowing 0 runs with 6 strikeouts. 

Home runs for the Chipola Indians came when Jose Caballero homered in the first inning, Keiner Colmenarez homered in the ninth inning, and Whyte homered in the twelfth inning.

Whyte, Caballero, Colmenarez and Michael Hickman helped lead the Chipola Indians. They combined for eight hits and seven RBIs.

A four-run ninth inning kept the Indians alive. Colmenarez led the inning off with a solo shot. Te'Kwaan Whyte and Myles Edwards followed with a walk. Jay Estes then singled to load the bases. Tyler Osik proceeded to walk, scoring Whyte. Following a flyout, Michael Hickman delivered a 2-run single through the right side to tie the ball game. The Indians stranded the winning run at third. 

The Indians are back in action on Monday, April 11 at home against Tallahassee. Game-time is scheduled for 5pm CST.
